Songs from Musicals with Alma Shaw
I got involved with MDFR because my mum, my sister, my nana and my aunty all passed away after living with dementia. When my nephew Nat started MDFR I thought it was a brilliant idea, and wanted to help out if I could, and he suggested I do a show.
My show is all about music from films, usually musicals, but occasionally I do a show where I play theme songs or songs that are associated with certain films. I think songs from musicals really resonate with people living with dementia and their carers, as it can bring back memories not only of the film, but who they saw it with and where they saw it and they can sing a long with the songs..
My favourite song for a number of reasons is Alright Now by Free. It is a family favourite as most of my family are Free fans so when it plays I have all sorts of memories attached to it.
My best musical experience has to be the first time I saw Kate Bush live at the Liverpool Empire in 1979 she was amazing and I was lucky enough to see her again in London in 2014.
