THE rOGER PHILLIPS HOUR

Roger has been a radio presenter on Radio Merseyside for decades and now he has “retired” he is bringing his inimitable style of music compilation to you.

Why did you get involved with Merseyside Dementia Friendly Radio?

Two reasons - one selfish in that it keeps my hand (voice?) in making radio; but much more important - it's a unique exciting venture fulfilling a real need for people with dementia

Tell me a little about your show

A very simple format - I choose a theme, such as the 60s or weather music and so on, and play songs on the theme each week interspersed with a bit of chat about each piece, hoping that memories will sometimes be sparked.

Favourite song or first song you bought?

Favourite song is Andy Fairweather Lwe's Wide Eyed and Legless

What is your best musical experience?

Seeing the Lion King

As part of Playlist for Life’s National Playlist Day, could you tell us a little about your upcoming radio show and how it’s inspired by your loved one’s meaningful music playlist?

I'm still waiting for a list of music from a friend whose wife is in the early-ish stages of dementia

Bonus questions:

If you were a biscuit, which one would you be?

God knows - but my favourite is Chocolate Fingers

Or

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Fish and chips and mushy peas
