Will’s Cosmic Jukebox

I first heard about the station through my friend Lucas, who hosts a fantastic show that goes out every other Friday at 6pm. He suggested that I get in touch with Nat, the station manager, as he was looking for someone to record some continuity announcements. However, after I sat in on one of Lucas' recording sessions with Nat, I was keen to get started on my own show. Nat and the team have done such an amazing job getting the station to where it is now, and it appealed to me personally as my dad is currently living with dementia down in Bristol.

Tell me a little about your show.

I present the cosmic jukebox show on MDFR which goes out every other Friday at 5:00 p.m. I try to play an eclectic mix of tunes from across the decades that represents some of the finest sounds us earthlings can produce. I like to think that if an alien spaceship crash landed on Pier Head, these would be the first tunes I would play them!

Favourite song or first song you bought?

My favourite song is Alone Again Or by the band Love. It is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs to come out of the 60s, and is featured on my favourite album from that decade, Forever Changes.

My best musical experience has to be following my dad around with his brass band, The Ambling Band, as they ambled through a muddy circus field at Glastonbury Festival, 20 years ago. They always perform wearing bright pink outfits so you could see them a mile off! I was probably shaking a couple of cans filled with dried beans, just out of time with the beat. My favourite track they performed was It Must Be Love by Labbi Siffre.

If you were a biscuit, which one would you be?

A shortbread finger. I go well with a cup of tea and on a good day, I'm full of butter!
